A request that came before MHD properly took off, but was placed on the back burner as production ramped up.

I don’t tend to make many large bags these days, so when the chance arises, I take it. The only issue was sourcing so much green fabric, but as it is my favorite color as well, I made sure to find enough.

This wound up being a birthday present, and through a bit of iteration, it got to a form that I knew would hold up. A sturdy 18×18×12 with a pleasant variety of greens to catch and soothe the eye and satisfy the wants of a friend who has supported this business since before it’s formal beginnings.

This bag was requested by a former colleague turned friend, having seen the Checkerboard Game Night Bag and wanting a vessel for their own usage. The request was as follows: Large Green and Black Straight Herringbone with Side Pockets, No Tote Straps, No Front Pocket. “No Rush”, the two words any creative likes to hear, as I went about searching for as many greens as I could find. While it’s not uncommon to find greens, it’s rarer than one might think when concerning discontinued fabrics because as more people like it, the less likely it is to go out of style. Cream Cheese, the ever dutiful tester was a part of the observation of this entire bag, and he was up close and personal with each piece to make sure maximum feline comfort was achieved.

This bag took months to properly finish, because even as it got its first iteration through the machine, I knew it was missing something.

I added grommets myself on either side pocket, along with buttons for security. I made sure the crosbody strap was long enough and could be secured away, but I knew it needed the central handles, so I seam-ripped and added those with another reinforced top stitch for better carrying and peace of mind.

It wound up better than I could imagine, with the plethora of green fabric coming together to make something magnificent. The bag and the strap share the same Thai elephant and monkey pattern. Instead of two D-Ring Clamps I opted for the new design of a secured strap side and the Tag D-Ring side.

Herringbone is a pattern I do not make often, but it looks so nice any time I wind up doing so, and I was glad that Scrap Creative Reuse, Arts and Scraps, and Haven&Co Interior Design were able to supply me with all of the necessary material to make this gift happen. May it carry all of the games it needs to and may the cats have a place to snuggle inside of otherwise. Knowing the recipient and knowing it is up to snuff is the most rewarding feeling to me as a creative. Better Late than Never. Others will rightfully be green with envy when they gaze upon this Fa(b)rick Masterpiece.
